Synaesthesia: Distorting Perception, Overwhelming Sensation

Examining the perception of colour - particularly focusing on how the placement, layering or transparency of colour can alter the signals between the eye and brain. Exploring how the interaction or application of colour can distort the visual hypotheses (or assumptions) that are made during the physiological connection between seeing and perceiving.

Further investigating the neurological condition 'Synaesthesia'; the merging of senses that are not normally connected. The simulation of one sense causes an involuntary reaction in one or more of the other senses. Synesthetes can often 'see' music, 'taste' colour or 'hear' textures. The notion of senses merging informed the idea to investigate the response of yarn fibres to the application of colour, by hand dip-dyeing my knitwear designs.
